Abstract

This article examines the relationship between the Union générale des travailleurs algériens (UGTA) and the Confederazione generale italiana del lavoro (CGIL) during the Algerian decolonization war. Firstly, we will examine the establishment of a Union liaison office in Rome, which positioned the Italian capital as the 'hub' for Algerian trade union movements in Europe. Secondly, we will examine the mobilization promoted in workplaces by the CGIL in solidarity with Algeria. In particular, we will focus on the circulations that took place between Tunis and Rome. Finally, we will examine the Italian union’s support for the autonomy of the pan-African trade union movement.
