This article presents the first detailed analysis of a scene in the second hypostyle hall of the temple of Seti I in Abydos. It contains an offering list showing a great number of characteristics that result from the mechanisms of “visual poetry” and “layout”, which were used by its creators in order to supply the scene with additional meaning. The different phenomena with an origin in the ancient Egyptian visual and communicative culture are analysed on two levels, regarding intratextual relations as well as relations between the textual and the figurative parts of the composition.
