Episteme aims to offer a reading environment that is as clear, stable and accessible as possible. Accessibility is understood here as a progressive editorial responsibility: making content easier to read, improving orientation within long pages and reducing visual or technical barriers to consultation.

Our commitment
The journal pays particular attention to the readability of texts, the consistency of navigation and access to essential information. This commitment focuses first on visual accessibility and reading accessibility, without being limited to a single group of users.
Tools already available
As a first step, the site provides several reading tools:
- a light mode and a dark mode, available from the site header;
- a progressive text-size adjustment for the central reading area;
- speech synthesis in French, English and Spanish, designed to read the main content of the pages;
- internal links and back-to-top links on long pages, to support orientation;
- a hierarchy of headings and subheadings intended to make texts easier to scan.
An ongoing process
These tools are a first step. They do not replace a full accessibility audit or an exhaustive policy covering all possible needs. The journal will continue this work as it develops, especially by improving downloadable documents, text structure and compatibility with assistive technologies.
Reference standard
The journal follows the WCAG 2.1 level AA recommendations of the W3C and, in their local Swiss version, the eCH-0059 standard. In its current state, the site is considered partially compliant: most criteria are met thanks to the OJS platform and the adjustments made, but some limitations remain — particularly in the PDF documents of the articles — and will be addressed progressively.

Readers, authors and reviewers who encounter an access, reading or navigation difficulty may contact the editorial team at episteme@unige.ch. The feedback received will help improve the site progressively.
